Free download ã Hosie's Alphabet Hosie's AlphabetI've been telling people for year that if they look at this book they'll understand meThis was the alphabet book that I had as a child it was given to me when I couldn't even read let alone stand up Even before I could read I would look at the pictures just about every night When I could read I read it to my little brother This is definitely not a book to use to teach the ABCs to a kid but it's still the most awesome alphabet book I've ever read Since my Master's thesis was on alphabet books and involved reading and reviewing over 500 of them that says a lot

Free download ã Hosie's Alphabet Hosie's AlphabetI love this book and my boys were enthralled The illustrations were uniue and wonderful This is one of those books that I instantly want to buy just to open occasionaly and enjoy the art I will admit that the text felt a little lacking but I still can not lower the rating beause I loved the pictures so much This is one of those weird childrens books that some parents find too odd or disturbing I think these types of books are perfect for kids This is something different My five year old first picked up a book at the library featuring the Lion King and I told him to put it back We rarely check out books featuring the same old generic characters and stories I told him to find something different and as usual he found something special

Free download ã Hosie's Alphabet Hosie's AlphabetUnusual is not necessarily goodThis is a weird book Every spread is a letter of the alphabet in alphabetical order picture on the right text on the left It starts out like it's almost going for some alliteration but then it just stops It's almost like some of the pages go for alliteration and some of them don't which I guess makes sense because it was written by different people I don't know who Hosie is or why he wrote this alphabet He's not even the illustrator It's just bizarre and the illustrations are strange in a kind of Ralph Steadman way if Ralph Steadman did watercolor with smudges They're very dark almost disturbing illustrations D is for demon of all things Most everything else is an animal or creature of some kind I guess P the primordial protozoa is technically not an animal but pretty much everything else is U the invisible unicornSome of the stuff is just d

Free download ã Hosie's Alphabet Hosie's AlphabetThis strange alphabet book actually includes dark figures than I was expecting D is for Demon might not have been my first choice for a children’s book A uick Google search reveals that this book was challenged in Seattle in 1996 I don’t agree with banning books obviously but that was my first thought when I saw that particular page As a lesson in the ABCs this book pretty much fails it’s really like a collection of paintings inspired by an alphabetical series of concepts Some of the pictures are neat such as the page for octopus where the text is doubled so that four words become 8 I also love the rhinoceros where light and shadow work together to convey the animal’s size and the unicorn whose silver outlines hint as invisibility
