mobi ☆ Child 44read ´ citybreakscheap Child 44 , The Child 44 Trilogy , 1Un très bon roman policier mais est ce vraiment le bon ualificatif? mobi ☆ Child 44read ´ citybreakscheap Child 44 , The Child 44 Trilogy , 1I certainly could not recommend this book Everything about it was ugly The early chapters about living in Stalin's Russia were depressing in the extreme But when we got to the murders the real horror began The detailed descriptions of the actual murders was revolting I think the author has a sick mind I would not wish to meet h
mobi ☆ Child 44read ´ citybreakscheap Child 44 , The Child 44 Trilogy , 1This book attracted me enough to buy it after a friend recommended it a few years ago yet I always seemed to pick up a different 'less Russian' sounding book up off my bookcase That was a mistake because this book reeled me in uickly and kept me hooked until the last pageThis is a novel that explores and educates us about what it must have been like to live in Stalin's Russia and never before have I been so glad to have been born in 'the free world'The central character is Leo Demidov who is an officer working for the MGM Ministry of State Securitypre KGB who believes in his country and takes his job very seriously However he develops doubts about the very system he has always worked to uphold and has to struggle with some serious moral issues as it becomes apparent th

mobi ☆ Child 44read ´ citybreakscheap Child 44 , The Child 44 Trilogy , 1Unusual in that the background to the story is important than the story itself or the characters Actually the characters are rather one dimensional and the story itself a touch silly but the atmosphere of terror and oppression the gloom of a vast nation of informers victims and state sponsored murderers doing a tragic endless pointless dance IS the story It would have better without Vasili who was an easy cardboard cut out baddie and the escape from the train was a bit ludicrous Then again everyone in Russia rallying to them at the end defying the state contradicted the whole po
mobi ☆ Child 44read ´ citybreakscheap Child 44 , The Child 44 Trilogy , 1This was suggested for our book club and I wasn't looking forward to it as others in the group had said how dreadful some of the content was Yes a lot of the story is shocking and it is set in a very turbulent depressed time in Russia where the majority of people are desperately poor barely surviving and the State is paranoid about the West assuming that everyone is a potential spy Set in amongst this is a child murderer It's not an uplifting story by any means but it does spell out the struggle of life during this time for people in Russia and certainly this is the case for some of the main characters I did find myself wanting to know what happens and felt that I'd been on a journey myself after reading this book Would I recommend it? Yes if you are into dark thrillers but maybe not if you prefer a lighter read
